There are many botanical gardens and arboretums throughout New Jersey where you can take in the beauty of nature and leave with the spirit of spring inside you. Following are a sampling of nearby gardens worth experiencing: Leonard J. Buck Gardens Far Hills New Jersey’s premier rock gardens displaying ecological and beautiful alpine and wooded gardens on 33 acres. Colonial Park Arboretum and Gardens, East Millstone 144 acres of labeled specimen trees, shrubs. Featuring a Sensory Garden for the visually impaired, a 5-acre garden of flowers and grass- es plus a formal rose garden dis- playing more than 3,000 roses. Cross Estate Gardens Bernardsville Formal and native gardens, plants, trees and ornamental grasses. Frelinghuyson Arboretum Morristown Native and exotic plants abound in these 127-acre informal gardens. Its buildings and grounds offer a glimpse into Morristown’s late Victorian era. Garden for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Iselin Sensory garden with Braille signs. Separate sections for summer, primrose, rose, spring, rock, peren- nials and annuals. A Circle of Senses garden features plants all at waist level. Greenwood Gardens, Short Hills Located at the Greenwood Estate, adjacent to Short Hills Park, a con- temporary garden with a nod to the Arts and Crafts and classical approaches to design. 28 acres of winding paths take visitors through Italianate garden terraces, grottoes, ornamental trees and shrubs, and wildflower meadows. Reeves-Reed Arboretum Summit A living museum featuring historic buildings and 13.5 acres of pastoral lawns, wooded trails and historic gardens. Rutgers Gardens New Brunswick 180-acre public garden on the RU campus with a wide variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden, Somerset 144-acre arboretum, including a fragrance and sensory garden, and a perennial garden with 285 vari- eties of roses. Wagner Farm Arboretum Warren Trees, shrubs and flowers set in the beauty of Warren, including a but- terfly garden. Willow Wood Arboretum Chester 130 acres with 3,500 native and exotic plants and trees. Adjacent to the Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center.
