Somerset Street, Raritan Submitted By: Raritan Music Center For 20 years, Raritan Music Center has offered personal and exceptional music lessons in Raritan, NJ. Over time, the studio has grown to 25 teachers who provide lessons on piano, guitar, orchestral strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and voice. Our teachers largely focus on consistent musical growth while offering students various performance experiences, which allow the student to display and solidify their musical accomplishments. Each spring, we hold a month long recital series in which all students are encouraged to participate and perform in front of family, friends, and peers. In addition to Raritan Music Center recitals, we also are involved with a number of organizations that allow students the opportunity to be evaluated, such as the Mid-Atlantic Music Teachers Guild (MAMTG), the New Jersey Music Teachers Association (NJMTA), the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM/ Royal Academy). The ABRSM/Royal Academy pro- gram at Raritan Music Center is per- haps the most intensive and expansive learning experience, as it incorporates weekly instruction in addition to a weekly preparatory class that focuses on ear training, sight reading, and musical theory – all of which are an integral part of the ABRSM examina- tions. ABRSM is the UK’s largest music education body, one of its largest music publishers and the world’s lead- ing provider of music exams, offering assessments to more than 630,000 candidates in 93 countries every year. ABRSM’s mission is to inspire achieve- ment in music. In partnership with the Royal Schools of Music, we support high-quality music-making and learn- ing around the world. We offer path- ways and resources for learners and teachers that help build musical skills, provide goals and encourage progress. Raritan Music Center is extremely proud to have been selected as a test- ing facility for the ABRSM examina- tions, and we look forward to seeing the growth of our students involved with this program. In addition to our involvement with outside musical organizations, Raritan Music Center also holds several in- house programs in which students can participate. Our weekly Rock Program gives our musicians a taste of the band experience, allowing them to run rehearsals, work together as a cohesive group, learn the basics of studio record- ing, and experience playing a wide vari- ety of musical genres. Their repertoire includes rock, punk, funk, blues, and jazz, and the Rock Program will be per- forming at local venues. Many of our students also participate in our Summer Camp programs, which provide them with the ability to intensely focus on their instrument for at least five consec- utive days and expand their skills even further. Summer Camps also encourage students to explore a new instrument for the first time, or to expand their knowledge of general musical theory. Our newest program, Mommy & Me at RMC, will introduce infants and tod- dlers to joys of melody and rhythm in a group setting. Perhaps the most life changing aspect of being involved with Raritan Music Center is becoming part of a musical community. Students have the opportunity to interact with peers, find inspiration from older students, or encourage younger students who may be just beginning their journey of learning to play an instrument. It is within this community of musicians that students grow the most. Raritan Music Center prides itself with the ability to help all students reach their musical goals through this incredible musical community that is comprised of its teachers, students, and families. Hope to see you soon!
