THE CONNECTION

Bridgewater-Somerville Edition

Welcome to the summer issue of The Bridgewater-Somerville Connection! We have a wonder- ful issue filled with new and re- turning advertisers, great editorial content and important commu- nity news items. This issue our special sections include: Summer Programs, featuring many activities and camps to keep the kids busy this summer, Home Sweet Home, which highlights every- thing home related, Dining Out with some great new restaurants and outdoor patio options, Health & Well- ness to keep us balanced and happy this summer sea- son. We have an Explore Downtown Somerville section featuring businesses and professionals in this vi- brant town. Also our Spotlight on Seniors includes a heartfelt column by Ellyn Mantell and of course our Community Calendar introduces the new summer programs, clubs and activites. We hope you keep this magazine in your home all summer as a valuable source for all your local needs! Highlighted from our business/professional community in this issue are: Robert Incao/Lisa Berchoff-Weichert Realtors, Eight Main Street/ Teaberry’s, Changing Lives Martial Arts, Office Evolution, All Tire Com- pany, Amwell Auto Body, Bridgewater Overhead Doors, Kimberley Dabrowski/Lisa Middleton- Weichert Realtors and Congregation Knesseth Israel. Our talented writers have given us unique insight into these businesses and their respective owners. Local artist, Frank Gubernat, adorns our cover with painting in pastel pencils entitled, “ Balloon Race.” Frank states, ”I have attended the annual QuickChek NJ Festival of Ballooning on several occasions and have always been fascinated by both the process of inflating and flying the balloons as well as by the colors and beauty of the balloons themselves. ‘Balloon Race’ is ac- tually a composit of my memories of watching the event – from inflation, to lift off, to floating off into the distance. The balloons at the bottom of the drawing are canted, representing the gigantic shapes being filled with hot air. From there the balloons move upward vi- sually until they are aloft directly overhead. Once they reach the optimum height and catch the current of the breeze, they move off into the distance, growing smaller as they move further away. I found the beauti- ful, colorful balloons sailing off against the backdrop of a blue summer sky to be very symbolic of artistic ideas taking flight, which inspired this piece.” Please read Frank’s impressive bio on page 8. Look for our FUN contest in this issue: SPOT THE FAKE! Somewhere in this issue is a fake ad. Find it and email us at Spotthefake@theconnectionsnj.com.
