Closed for repairs following a fire on Jan. 8, the restaurant in the historic building has been refurbished with a new look and completely updated kitchen facilities. Bernardsville Mayor Kevin Sooy par- ticipated in the “soft opening’’ to wel- come back customers in a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony. “The build- ing is a major part of our community,’’ Sooy said. “I recognize the manage- ment for their efforts and our first responders who saved both life and property during the fire.’’ About 25 members of The Bernardsville Fire Company came out for the early-morning fire, which was reported at about 2 a.m. They were joined by dozens of other volunteer firefighters from throughout Somerset County who helped safely evacuate tenants. It took about an hour and 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze. “We are so grateful to all of the first responders for their bravery and hard work to save this historic building,’’ said Harold Imperatore of Hampshire Destination Properties, owners of The Station. “It took a lot longer than we originally thought to renovate and reopen, but we are very pleased with the final result.” In addition to the new kitchen, which was designed for a more effi- cient work flow, the restaurant and bar areas have been refurbished with many aesthetic changes. Keeping with the traditional train station feel, a huge floor to ceiling mural of a train station has been added, along with a bright graffiti mural in a new nook area that provides seating for about a dozen patrons. Large photos of local train stations along the Gladstone line have been restored and rehung in the dining area. The color scheme features peacock blue walls with chocolate brown high- lights. “It’s a fresher look, bright and modern,’’ Imperatore said. The new menus reflect the fun “graffiti” look on the walls and are full of creative entrees that are mouthwa- tering good and freshly prepared. There are some new additions in recognition of the coveted first respon- ders that saved the day including: the First Responder French Dip Sandwich, the Firehouse Burger and the Three Alarm Bloody Mary, sounds like a drink, but on closer look you’ll find all kinds of goodies including grilled shrimp piled high as the garnish! You can still enjoy the family pro- motion created by Manager, Geraldine Infantolino, that was spotlighted in local papers and national news - Dis- connect from Phones! Reconnect with Family SM . The Station will give you a basket for your phones along with some old-fashioned pencil and paper games while you eat. If you make it through the end of the meal without using your phone, we’ll give you... 5% off your food bill! This pro- motion has become a staple of the restaurant and a continued delight to parents and children alike.
