THE BRIDGEWATER-SOMERVILLE CONNECTION

SEPT/OCT/NOV 2017

Sadly, Summer is coming to an end, and it’s time to make sure you and your pup are ready for Fall. While we all enjoy the falling leaves and cooler temperatures, there are important items to consider when it comes to your pet. Here are a few tips to keep top of mind during the fall months. 1. Many dogs have not been as active outdoors because of scorching summer days, so make sure you and your four-legged friend practice some basic training. It is essential to give them a refresher on the very important “come” command, espe- cially if you will be spending more time outside. 2. If you and your pup have not been on long walks in a while and you are going to enjoy long walks in the cooler weather, make sure to build up their stamina a little bit. Start with shorter walks and build your way up. This will make it an eas- ier adjustment for your dog’s body. 3. Watch out for toxic chemicals, such as fertilizers and rodent killers. These are frequently used in the fall and can be deadly to your pet. 4. In preparation for winter, many people change or refresh the coolant in their car. Antifreeze has a sweet taste that dogs love but is extremely toxic. 5. Make sure to have the poison control number readily available in case your pet does get into some- thing toxic. The ASPCA has a 24-hour animal poison control hotline and can be reached at 888-426-4435. 6. It is extremely important to continue with regular flea and tick treatments for your pups. Fleas and ticks can live throughout the winter (down to temperatures in the 40’s!). Year-round treatment is highly recommended. 7. Bring your dog to doggy day care. By doing so your dog can have fun all day whether they’re playing with other dogs or hanging out with human friends. There are many ben- efits to having your dog attend day care including, but not limited to, socialization, weight management, unlimited access to outdoor areas, peace of mind while you’re at work, and separation anxiety issues. We invite you to stop in for a tour of Camp Bow Wow. Our services include doggy day care, overnight boarding, training, and grooming.
