At Somerville’s Black Belt World, Master Hyun Jun Kim and his team focus on the pillars of respect, dis- cipline and self-awareness through the practice of Martial Arts. The dedicated team at Black Belt World, including Master Kim, Master Lee, Master Oh and Master Song, works to transform lives through the art of Taekwondo. “Our goal is to inspire, guide and educate families to improve physically, mentally and spiritually through self discovery so they can develop a peaceful mind and live with forever happiness,” said Mas- ter Kim who has been practicing for 30 years. Black Belt World offers classes for ages 3-70. Their Little Tigers class, for preschoolers and kinder- garteners, serves as an energy out- let and increases focus and self- control within a structured, learn- ing environment. Classes for older children focus on cooperation, courtesy and respect. As they attend classes at Black Belt World, children learn how to set and achieve goals. “Teachers and parents often notice a dramatic difference when a child begins martial arts classes – they listen better at home, put more effort into schoolwork and receive better grades,” said Master Oh who has been practicing for 18 years. Black Belt World also offers classes for adults and the entire family (no experience is needed). Adult classes are a fun form of fit- ness and great for stress relief and self-defense techniques. With personal attention to every student, “we are providing the community not only great physical shape but great discipline and char- acter education,” said Master Kim. “Taekwondo is not all about kicks and punches anymore, rather, it’s about continual progress and becoming better with each passing day, in all aspects of your life.” The Back Belt World communi- ty is very active in Somerville and its surrounding areas. Each year they put on demonstrations in Manhattan’s Taekwondo Festival, Somerville’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and National Night Out.
