His keen interest in American nau- tical history has been the inspi- ration for most of his work as a fine artist. “Every painting I do tells a story.” Richard does extensive research for his painting, working from muse- um ship models, ship construc- tion plans among other things. Richard works in acrylics and oil. The featured painting “USS Constitution attack on Tripoli” depicts a scene from the Bar- bary wars in 1804. The US was pushed into a war by many unprovoked attacks on Ameri- can shipping by Barbary cor- sairs, the terrorist of that era. This painting was done in Acrylics. Richard’s works are found in many private collections throughout the United States. He is represented by a number of galleries from Newport, RI to Florida. Another painting of the “USS Constitution” was sold at Christie’s auction house for a record price in 2008.
