4 HEALTHY HABITS THAT CAN ADD 14 YEARS TO YOUR LIFE By: Dr. Jeannine Baer Feinstein Stirling Health & Pain Management In January 2008, a study was published in Public Library of Science (PLoS) Medicine Jour- nal that involved more than 20,000 men and woman. In this study they tracked sub- jects on average with 11 year follow-up evaluation. The researchers were able to identify 4 healthy habits that can potentially add an aver- age of 14 years to one’s life. Put another way, those practicing the 4 healthy habits as compared to those not practicing any of the 4 healthy habits will live, on average, 14 years longer. The 4 healthy habits they were able to identify involved not smoking, eating 5 serv- ings of vegetables and fruits every day, exercising, and drinking alcohol in modera- tion. Of all of the 4 habits, one was most important above all the others: never smoking. Researchers also found that quitting smoking was also important. This was followed by eating 5 servings of vegetables and fruits daily. If you are looking to create better health or wellness in your life, look to incorporat- ing these 4 healthy habits. This study showed if you smoke, it’s never too late to quit. Try adding more fruit and vegatables to your meals. If you don’t exercise, it’s easy to start. Remember to start slow and set small goals for yourself you can meet. Look to family and friends to help support you in your new habits. With support, it’s easi- er to make changes and stick to them. Dr. Baer, as a chiropractic physician, is expertly trained and qualified to help you achieve your health and well- ness goals. “At our office, we can make recommendations, help you design a plan of action and help support you along the way.”
