LEE AESTHETIC CENTER, LLC 58 Mount Bethel Road Suite 302 Warren, NJ 07059 908-738-1160 By: Henry Lee, MD Dr. Henry Lee Oculofacial plastic surgery, also known as oculoplastic surgery or oph- thalmic plastic surgery, is a subspeciali- ty of ophthalmology and is one of the “core four” aesthetic specialties, along with facial plastic surgery, dermatol- ogy, and plastic surgery. Oculofacial plastic surgeons undergo extensive surgical training first in ophthalmic sur- gery, including microsurgery, and then in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, with emphasis on the region around the eyes and midface. The main organization for fellowship train- ing is the American Society of Oph- thalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Sur- gery (ASOPRS). Fellows graduating from a two-year ASOPRS fellowship typically perform or participate in over 2000-3000 eyelid and facial surgeries in addition to numerous minimally invasive in-office procedures, such as dermal filler and botulinum toxin injections. Oculofacial plastic surgeons per- form a variety of cosmetic and recon- structive surgeries involving the eye- lids, tear drain, eye socket (orbit), and face. Some common procedures per- formed by oculofacial plastic surgeons are described below. EYELID LIFT An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, can involve the upper or lower eyelids. Upper eyelid lifts are performed as a reconstructive surgery if there is signif- icant excess skin on the upper eyelids that affects one’s peripheral vision and activities of daily living. Upper and lower eyelid lifts may also be per- formed for cosmetic purposes in order to rejuvenate one’s eyes. An upper eye- lid lift typically involves removal of upper eyelid skin whereas a lower eye- lid lift may involve skin removal, fat removal, fat repositioning, and/or mus- cle tightening. DROOPY EYELID SURGERY Ptosis surgery is performed when the eyelid has become droopy. Eyelids most commonly become droopy due to age and gravity, though genetics and other factors can play a role. Droopy eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance if the eyelids have fallen enough to affect one’s peripheral vision. Ptosis surgery is also performed on a cosmetic basis. DERMAL FILLER AND BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS Dermal fillers are products that are injected into various regions of the face, such as the cheeks, lower eyelids, nasolabial folds, perioral lines, and lips in order to rejuvenate areas that have lost volume over time and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Botulinum toxins are also injected into different locations on the face, such as between the eyebrows, forehead, crow’s feet, jawline, and neck in order to improve the appearance of dynamic wrinkles in those regions. The Lee Aesthetic Center is excit- ed to offer oculofacial plastic surgery and minimally invasive cosmetic proce- dures to central New Jersey. In addition to the procedures described above, we offer non-invasive body contouring with CoolSculpting, which can treat unwanted and stubborn areas of fat on the abdomen, flanks, chin, arms, back, bra region, inner and outer thighs, and distal thigh (knee) region. Dr. Henry Lee, a native of central NJ, has performed thousands of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries and pro- cedures, and he looks forward to establishing his practice in Warren and contributing to the greater Warren community.
