In addition to holding a bachelor’s degree, a RDN must complete multiple courses of education and extensive training, established by the Accreditation Coun- cil for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). In fact, roughly half of all RDNs hold graduate degrees and many certifications in specialized fields, including sports, pediatric, etc. According to the code of ethics stated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, registered dietitian nutrition- ists are expected to practice dietetics based on scientific values and up-to- date information. In addition to nutri- tion information and advice, dieticians provide their clients with support, accountability, and motivation. As stated by the American Cancer Society, 550,000 Americans die every year due to cancer. Surprisingly, one third of these deaths are caused by a poor diet. In addition to cancer, poor diets can cause type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or even stroke. The Center for Disease Control claims 25 percent of Americans do not get the recommended five daily por- tions of fruit and vegetables. Turning a poor diet into a balanced, healthy diet requires major lifestyle changes. As food experts, registered dietitian nutri- tionists can help patients develop a safe and effective nutrition plan to get them back on track with healthy eating and exercise. Peak Medical, a multidisciplinary phys- ical medicine and rehabilitation center, successfully assists patients in reaching their nutritional and health goals. As each individual has a unique set of dietary needs, we customize specific nutrition plans using an array of nutri- tion counseling services and experi- ence. A few of the services that are offered at Peak Medical include gener- al nutrition, sports nutrition, culinary nutrition, weight loss support, recipe modification, pantry makeover, meal planning, food preparation, and more. Furthermore, registered dietitian nutri- tionists are able to provide accurate information about nutrients, calories, food groups, allergies, labels, and ingredients. With the help of counsel- ing, support, and education available through Peak Medical, people are find- ing their way back to healthy lifestyles. In addition to Peak Medical’s new RDN services, they have recently expanded and renovated their clinic in order to provide a more caring and comprehen- sive environment to aid in restoring and maintaining optimum health. Peak Medical Center’s expansion project includes a 5,900 square foot addition to better accommodate their patients. The Berkeley Heights Clinic offers expanded medical services, including DRX9000 non-surgical spinal decom- pression, nutritional counseling, fluo- roscopy-guided injections (live motion x-ray), expanded treatment & acupunc- ture rooms, and pelvic floor therapy. For years, Peak Medical has helped the residents of Berkeley Heights and many surrounding communities to find relief from severe and chronic pain, by enlist- ing a team approach to care. We feel that by having the eyes and ears of several different specialists, our patients receive better results. We con- tinually invest in the latest technology and treatments to ensure that our patients are receiving the best care possible. Peak Medical enlists a multi- disciplinary approach for helping our patients achieve the healthiest lifestyle possible. Not only do we have medical doctors and registered dietitian nutri- tionists, but our clinic also consists of doctors of physical therapy, chiroprac- tic physicians, acupuncturists, and more. All of whom are trained in treat- ing pain non-surgically. This experience combined with the latest FDA cleared technology provides amazing results for our patients. Plus, with the person- al attention that we give each individ- ual, it is not uncommon for patients to feel as though they are part of our family. We feel the same way, and are anxious to help people find viable solu- tions to their pain.
