SUMMIT, NJ – As part of an annual spring ritual, many people still hold to the time-honored tradition of “spring cleaning” their homes and de-cluttering. If you are among those who try to get rid of unwanted items and don’t know where to donate them, look no further than SAGE’s Resale Shop, located at 31B Chatham Road in Summit.
One of the best benefits to giving your unwanted possessions to the Resale Shop is that the funds raised from sales goes directly back into the community for programs and services for older adults that are provided by SAGE Eldercare, also in Summit, at 290 Broad Street.
Entire and partial estate donations are accepted and new and one-of-a-kind items are always welcome. If you have large or heavy items, such as furniture, that you are donating, they would appreciate a call to arrange for pick-up. Items that can be carried into the store are accepted during business hours, Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.
“Although the shop welcomes donations of furniture and larger items, we are currently looking for items that are smaller such as housewares, lamps, china, and gently-used and in-season clothing,” stated Rose Rittweger, Manager of SAGE’s Resale Shop. “We are also currently in the midst of offering a Prom Sale on dresses and tuxes for local high school students who may be looking to save money on their prom attire.”
Since 1959, the SAGE Resale Shop has helped provide funds for SAGE’s programs and services. They offer an unusual variety and exceptional quality of goods, along with reasonable prices, which attracts shoppers and collectors in the area. Regular visits to the shop ensure the opportunity to find and purchase ever-changing merchandise and special treasures.
SAGE Eldercare supports the independence, well-being and quality of life of older adults, their families and caregivers, through the provision of client-centered health, social and support services. Founded in 1954, SAGE is one of the few non-profit eldercare agencies in the United States, and the oldest in New Jersey, that offers a broad and comprehensive array of services under one roof that assist elderly, often frail, adults to remain independent in their own homes.
Programs at SAGE Eldercare include: HomeCare; Meals On Wheels; Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center; GPS (Guidance, Planning and Support) Services; InfoCare free information and referral service; Fall Prevention Initiative; Home Repair Service; Grocery Shopping and Errand Service; Bill Paying Service; Holistic Living Services; Alzheimer’s and PREP caregiver support groups; Community Education; and Union County Medicare SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program). In addition, SAGE operates a Furniture Restoration Workshop, run by volunteers who specialize in caning and rushing chairs and refinishing furniture.
