BASKING RIDGE, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty of nature as fall shows its colors in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.
Tree House Gang
Tuesday, November 13, 20, and 27 from12:45 P.M. to 3:15 P.M.
Children ages 3 to 5 will be entertained and educated at these afternoon
science and nature classes. Program will include hikes, hands-on
activities, interacting with live animals, and creating crafts.
Fee is $50 per person for the three-day program.
Color Hunt – NEW!
Thursday, November 15 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children age infant to 5and a parent will enjoy a walk and a visit from
some animals to discover a rainbow of colors.
Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.
Science “E” – NEW
Friday, November 16 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Children age 7 to 9 will learn how science and the environment go hand in
hand, focusing on earth science in the first of a three session
program. Theme is “Wind.”
Fee is $6 per person.
Mystery in the Swamp
Saturday, November 17 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Children ages 7 to 9 will help a Naturalist solve a “crime” by learning how to finger print suspects, collect clues, analyze handwriting, and
perform other crime solving techniques.
Fee is $20 per person.
FAMILY & ADULT PROGRAMS
Thanksgiving for the Animals
Saturday, November 17 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will learn what they can do to help animals
survive the cold and snow of winter in this hands-on class.
Fee is $7 per adult and $6 per youth or senior
Saturday, November 17 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to learn about New
Jersey birds, where some go in winter and why others stay behind.
Fee is $6 per person.
Sunday, November 18 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist for a presentation that
will sort the myths from the facts about coyotes, education that is
important to people living in New Jersey.
The program is free.
Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch
Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
