LITTLE SHANTY
14 Mt. Bethel Road
Warren
By: Sherry Kevoe
Jonathan Lidz
“New” in Warren
and I mean
brand new like a baby. This is just
what
Little Shanty
is at the time
of this interview. Can you say open
only 3 days? This well conceived
i
dea is the brainstorm of owner
Jonathan Lidz, Founder and CEO,
along with his wife Bonnie.
Jonathan who is friendly and very
l
ikeable from the moment you
meet him, has followed his passion
for the restaurant/food business
from his youth where he did every-
thing from being a waiter to cook-
i
ng. In the military he was a mess
officer serving and preparing large
volumes of food. Jonathan has a
degree in political science and an
MBA as well. Bonnie is a consumer
products marketing manager and
together they have created what
will soon become a well known hot
spot in Warren.
Jonathan and Bonnie have lived
i
n Somerset Hills for 11 years and
have three children. From their own
busy lifestyle and trying to eat on
the run,
Little Shanty
was born.
The philosophy of
Little Shanty
is
simple, deliver great quality food
and offer healthy options in a time-
l
y manner. Jonathan prides himself
on serving fresh ingredients that
are brought in every day. When
entering
Little Shanty
you imme-
diately get a warm and friendly
feeling in a very comfortable
atmosphere.
Little Shanty
serves a variety of
burgers which include: Custom
blended Certified Angus Beef,
turkey and veggie. Build your own
burger from the Burger Bar with
toppings such as: sauteed mush-
rooms, caramelized onions, raw
onions, avocado, tomato, bacon,
cheeses and more. Burgers are
available on an artisan baked
brioche bun or have it wrapped in a
large romaine crown instead. Other
favorites include fresh salads, hot
dogs, chicken, vegetable sandwich-
es, BLT’s, and grilled cheese.
For french fry lovers, part of the
excitement at
Little Shanty
are
the Handcut Fries, especially
“Grandma’s Original French Fries”
which are deep fried with onions;
what a treat! Also served are Sweet
Potato Fries, Yukon Gold Potato
Chips and hand cut Vidalia onion
rings. Please let us not forget a vari-
ety of dipping sauces to add to the
fun. You can enjoy your meal with a
variety of shakes and ice cream for
dessert.
Little Shanty
truly has
something for everyone’s specific
dietary needs, such as a wonderfu
l
salad to Gluten Free rolls and bread.
Jonathan also believes in giving
back to the community in a most
humble way. He has teamed up
with the Community Food Bank of
New Jersey and feels that business-
es have a responsibility to fight
hunger and poverty right here in
our own neighborhoods. When
you buy a meal combination at
Little Shanty
they will donate a
portion of their revenue from that
sale to help buy a meal for some-
one else. As they like to say, “every-
one eats when you eat at our
house.”
Little Shanty
is so serious
about this affiliation, that there is a
board which hangs over head to
track how many meals were pur-
chased on a weekly basis. Cal
