What is your most dangerous hunger
zone? Stuck in traffic and grabbing a candy
bar from your purse? How about a bag of
chips to tide you over while cooking dinner?
Maybe it’s the can of soda or ice cream sun-
dae for a sweet treat during the Seinfeld
reruns. Or maybe it’s the two bites, or three or
four or more off the holiday cookie tray.
Just a taste, you say?
Wait – of course not. You are trying to
control your weight and those options simply

I used to do the same thing – I always did

it. After all, if you’re starving by your next
meal, you’ll over-eat the wrong foods and
under-nourish your body. No amount of
willpower will ever save you.
There’s nothing wrong with you, but we’ll
do anything to fill that hunger zone craving
and the nutrient void we feel from stuffing
down the wrong foods. Those hunger games
will win out over the desire to stay true to
the plan.
The solution to snatching the wrong THIS
is to have the right THAT within grabbing dis-
tance. And sorry to say, you do have to pre-
pare to grab the right foods. But it can be

Emergencies
1.
Roadside Assistance.
Trail Mix-to-Go:
Fill individual-sized baggies with
cashews, pumpkin seeds, and goji
berries, and plant them in hunger zones

your desk drawer, your purse, your car.
2.
After Work Tide-Me-Over.
Crudite
Crunch: Baggies of raw veggies are just
as easy to snack on after work instead of
reaching for a salty, crunchy bag of crap.
Sub in raw carrots, string beans, grape
tomatoes, and broccoli florets.
3.
Prime Time Snacking.
Shake-Me-Up:
Have a healthy shake option that you
can mix instantly. Frozen bananas, a
scoop of almond butter and flax seed in
a high-powered blender make a great
frozen ice cream consistency and a satis-
fying snack or mini meal.
4.
Weekend Munchies.
Simple Stuff: Bake
a butternut squash and 2 gala apples
until soft. Remove skin and blend togeth-
er for a warm, sweet satisfying puree.
Serve for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
5.
Dinner Drabs.
Get Naked: Containers
of simply pure and “naked” sliced and
diced carrots, onions, mushrooms, and
celery are easy to prep and handy to
grab. Add pre-chopped veggies to an
omelet, add into a turkey burger, or toss
in a salad. You can also add them to
color up a dark, leafy green sauté.
Be forewarned, the hunger zone will
always try to lure you off track. But if you are
well prepared, you will win the nasty hunger
game. I promise.
