Getting your garage organ-
ized is a challenge especially
during the winter. Designate an
area for winter supplies such as
shovels, snow blower, salt, win-
ter clothing and ice picks. Install
a shelf that is sturdy enough to
store heavy bags of salt. Put the
bags on the bottom shelf and
store snow boots and other win-
ter items on the middle shelf. In
the corner of the area store the
snow blower, but do not block it
with other items. Use hanging
hooks to hang a hand-held
snow blower on. Hanging
shelves or hooks can hang win-
ter gloves, hats, scarves and
snow pants. They can also be
labeled and stored in separate
boxes. Store the boxes on the
shelves in the winter supply
area. Use a hooks or a slatwall
system to store shovels, brooms
and other items that you can
easily stand up.
Designate an area in your
garage that you will use to store
your holiday decorations. Hav-
ing holiday decorations in their
own spot will help you find
them easily during the specific
holiday you will be using them
for. Put the large holiday decora-
tions that you would use outside
on your lawn on a ceiling rack.
Organize your decorations
into different boxes. One way to
organize the boxes to keep the
different holidays separated
from one another is to use color
coded boxes and label them
with the items that are in the
boxes. Keeping the lights
together is always tricky, but the
one thing you shouldn’t do is
throw them into the box
because they can get tangled or
broken. To store the lights you
can roll them up and tie them
with string in a resealable plastic
bag or you can use a spooler to
roll up lights and store them on
a peg board or in a box.
