DEENA’S
DELIGHTS
161
Sherman Avenue
Berkeley Heights
By: Sherry Kevoe
Deena’s Delights
is one of
Berkeley Heights’ best kept dining
secrets. If you are looking for high
quality, authentic, delicious, expert-
ly prepared Mediterranean or
American food, just visit
Deena’s
Delights.
The restaurant is located
at the NJ Transit commuter train
building in Berkeley Heights and
was formerly known as Momma’s
Caboose which was destroyed in a
fire in 2010.
Yoram Aflalo, owner and chef, is
a self-trained cook who learned his
craft at his mother’s side in Israel.
He has cooked at Renaissance Fes-
tivals, catered parties, and enjoys
watching people enjoy good food.
He, his wife, Donna, and their thir-
teen year old daughter, Eden, have
lived in Berkeley Heights for over
eight years. Yoram owns a con-
struction company, but cooking has
always been his passion. He
dreamed of opening a restaurant
and that dream has now become a
reality. His skills as a contractor
helped renovate
Deena’s.
The restaurant has been mod-
ernized with granite, and pictures
from Israel giving
Deena’s
a warm,
comfortable feeling. The kitchen
and restaurant design is a tribute to
both Yoram and Donna’s combined
creative talents. Donna is always on
hand to assist when needed in this
family business. The food at
Deena’s
is always freshly made and
Yoram's goal is to serve his patrons
high quality, delicious foods at rea-
sonable prices.
Yoram’s talent for cooking
comes as second nature as he com-
bines various spices to enhance the
flavor of the food he prepares. He
has taught his staff to prepare his
many recipes which include such
delectable, tasty delights such as
shawarma, kebabs, falafel, tabouli,
eggplant salad, and many other
dishes. American offerings include
a variety salads, omelets, paninis,
and burgers.
Deena’s
also serves
gluten free, vegan and vegetarian
foods.
Commuters can grab coffee, tea,
oatmeal, bagels and sandwiches
before boarding their morning
train. Yoram says, “Customers can
call in advance before leaving their
house or on the way home from
work to pick up their food”.
Although the mornings are busy,
lunchtime and early dinners are
becoming more popular as the
word spreads about the delights to
be found at
Deena’s
.
There is no
order that is too big or too small for
this well organized and talented
owner/chef and his staff led by
Yoram.
It is important to Yoram and his
family to give back to the commu-
nity in which they live.
Deena’s
has done just that by taking part in
numerous charitable events includ-
ing school events such as: the
Meatball Competition, Relay for
Life, and Taste of the Towns to
name a few. Catering is available
for all occasions. There is a new
children’s menu and
Deena’s
is
available for children’s parties and
all other occasions. For “free”
delivery simply call 908-790-1010.
Hours of operation are: Monday-
Friday 5:00am-7:30pm and Satur-
day 8:00am-2:00pm.
