There is so much to be considered,
and of course, the lists are leading to
more and more lists. As with any-
thing you have done before, a tinc-
ture of time and hard thinking will
help to determine so much of the
background work that is necessary to
create a smooth transition for your
parent/s. Consider hiring a profes-
sional to guide you, but either way,
remember your parent/s deserve the
opportunity to begin life in their
Assisted Living, Independent Living
or Nursing facility with the confi-
dence that this is the “right time for
the right move.”
I have outlined some important
broad suggestions, and would be
happy to answer some of your ques-
tions. Carol Cozewith and I (SENIOR
ASSISTANTS) oversee the packing,
moving and unpacking into the
above-mentioned facilities, and we
may be able to make your parent/s
transition a very pleasurable one.
Please call me at (908) 883-0469.
HERE ARE SOME WAYS
YOU CAN ASSIST YOUR
FAMILY MEMBER:
Assure your parent or
senior you want the very
best for her, just as your
parent had wanted the best
for you!
Show support by validat-
ing this is a new time in his
life, but remind him that
others are feeling the same,
and are anxious to make
new friends, as well.
Suggest a Social Worker
to answer any questions
about facilities and services
available, or engage a case
manager to give you valu-
able possibilities for your
parent’s specific needs.
Instruct your parent to be
as flexible and open to their
new world as possible…the
more flexible she is, the less
stress she will feel.
Sympathize with your
senior on the changes they
are facing, but be positive
and encouraging about the
new opportunities before
him/her.
Treat your parent kindly!
Remember, your children
are watching, and show
them the importance of
being loving, supportive
and caring!
YOUR PARENT HAS DECIDED TO
MAKE THE MOVE
TO THEIR NEW HOME...WHAT DO YOU DO NOW?
