farms great for apple picking, pumpkins and more
goodies! We hope these sections make the maga-
zine more focused and easier to read and you keep
the magazine in your home as a reference for all of
your local needs.
Cover artist, Dorothy Siclare, shares a beautiful
pastel on paper painting from her series entitiled,
“ after Degas.” She states, ”I work in all mediums
with my first love being oil. Yet there is something
so rich and so stimulating about pastel works on
paper. So I started to dabble with pastels. I decided I
should really learn from a master… unfortunately the
master I chose no longer lived on this earth so I
‘channeled’ the French painter Edgar Degas (1834-
1917) whose style was a mixture of impressionism
and realism. I made studies of 10 of this supreme
pastelist’s beautiful dancer paintings. How pleased I
was with the results… it gave me the confidence and
drive to continue in that medium and to win one of
my first awards for a pastel still life I created.”
Dorothy has a very creative background from doll
making to painting. Please read her wonderful bio
on page 6.
In keeping with our dedication to the “Commu-
nity,” we are proud to feature several significant
Community events this issue. An important event
coming up this fall, is Keeping Babies Safe 5k
Run/Walk held on Sunday September 29rd at Harry
Dunham Park, Basking Ridge, whose mission is to
raise money to provide education, assistance and
leadership in keeping babies safe from preventable
injuries associated with unsafe cribs, sleep environ-
ments and dangerous infant products. Visit

Center for Contemporary Art is proud to present a
benefit art auction entitled “Off The Wall,” Friday
evening; October 25th at 7pm. Proceeds from
this event will benefit education programs at

Tourism, the official Destination Marketing Organi-
zation for Somerset County will recognize positive
economic contributions of individuals and organiza-
tions through tourism activities at its FIRST annual
Somerset County salute to Tourism awards on

nominate a deserving individual or organization.
