THE BRIDGEWATER-SOMERVILLE CONNECTION
SEPTEMBER 2013
Did you suffer flood loss?
Sandy’s flood waters have receded,
the frustrations keep rising
Have you fully resolved your Sandy flood claim?
Have you filed a Proof of Loss for the
full amount of your claim?
If you answered “no” to either question,
it’s time to hire an attorney.
Why?
•
If your claim hasn’t been settled by now,
negotiations are over.
•
Technicalities in flood claims can lead to
claims being denied or underpaid.
•
Not filing a complete Proof of Loss waives
your rights to full legal remedies.
•
Public adjustors cannot file a lawsuit.

“
OSTEOARTHRITIS RELIEF PROGRAM”
AVAILABLE AT PERFORMANCE REHABILITATION
AND INTEGRATED MEDICINE
Submitted By: Performance Rehabilitation
If you are one of the 10 million people
a year who are diagnosed with
Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, you
will be pleased to learn that a success-
ful non-surgical treatment option is
available. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is an
all-natural, synthetic joint lubricating
compound that is injected directly into
the knee joint. Osteoarthritis of the
knee is a chronic degenerative condi-
tion that affects the “cushion” or car-
tilage in the knee joint by breaking
down from overuse. As the degenera-
tive changes progress, the amount of
synovial fluid (naturally occurring joint
lubrication) decreases in volume and
viscosity. In time, this results in “bone
on bone” articulation of the joint.
Patients with OA will generally com-
plain of pain and stiffness in the knee
joint, decrease range of motion,
swelling of the knee, instability, and
“
clicking or popping” of the knee. It is
theorized that many factors contribute
to a patient’s likelihood of developing
OA of the knee, which include: obesi-
ty, previous injury to the knee, occupa-
tions that require repetitive motions,
family history for this condition and
gender – it appears women more than
men suffer from OA of the knee.
Most experts agree that OA of the
knee is best treated with a combina-
tion of physical therapy, medications
and lifestyle modifications. Not all
patients, however, will respond to this
type of treatment regimens. Some
patients will experience adverse reac-
tions to narcotic pain relievers, or anti-
inflammatory pain medications such as
corticosteroid injections or Cox-2-
inhibitors (Celebrex/Vioxx). Other
patients prefer a non-pharmaceutical
approach or are considering knee
replacement surgery and would like to
delay the surgery until the timing is
right. For these patients, Hyaluronic
Acid (HA) is a viable treatment option.
Hyaluronic Acid is an FDA approved
medical treatment for osteoarthritis of
the knee. Hyaluronic Acid is an artificial
replacement of the synovial fluid or the
body’s natural lubricating fluid. When
injected into the knee, it helps cushion
the knee by increasing the fluid around
the knee. With that, the patient expe-
riences a reduction or resolution of
knee pain and an increased ability to
perform their daily activities. Hyaluron-
ic Acid is injected into the space
between the knee joint. Specific place-
ment of the HA injection is imperative.
Confirmation of exact needle place-
ment is obtained by ultrasound or x-ray
guidance. The patient will usually
undergo a series of injections over sev-
eral weeks. Some patients notice a sig-
nificant improvement after the first
injection. We do, however, recom-
mend completing the protocol for
maximum therapeutic benefit. The
duration of relief provided by HA injec-
tions varies from patient to patient.
Generally speaking, the average
patient will receive six months to one
year of relief from knee pain. But, if the
patient couples a regimen of physical
therapy treatments and a modest
home exercise program with HA injec-
tions, the relief might last even longer.
Patients can also receive a repeat regi-
men of HA injections as needed, with-
out harmful side-effects.
