The ORIGINAL “Rainbow G & J Painting”
servicing Bridgewater & all surrounding communities
for over 20 years. Glenn & Joseph Antico (owners)
As told to me by Dr. Christo-
pher Sciales, Warren Dermatol-
ogy Associates, at 122 Mt.
Bethel Road.
My father, also a doctor, is a
real character, and I have hun-
dreds if not thousands of stories
about him. This one probably
belongs in your column.
Once, when driving down a
hill not far from his home, my
father was pulled over in a
speed trap and given a ticket. He
was infuriated as he believed it
was a blatant attempt to gener-
ate revenue. Drivers, when they
crested the hill, picked up speed
when going downhill and made
them easy marks for the police.
My father circled back and
found a piece of cardboard and
a marker to create a warning
sign. He went to the top of the
hill and placed the sign on top of
a parked car. It worked. The
police wondered why, all of a
sudden, no one was speeding.
The officers went to the top
of the hill to investigate. They
located the warning sign. They
checked the registration on the
vehicle and learned that the car
was parked right in front of the
owner’s house.
The police rang the doorbell
with their guns drawn. A man
answered the door and con-
firmed to the police that he did
indeed own the car with the
sign. The officers then accused
him of obstruction of justice. Of
course he denied that he had
created the sign. Voices were
raised as accusations and denials
went back and forth. Ultimately,
the police put their weapons
away and warned the man that
they were going to keep “an eye
on him.”
Although safely at home, the
car owner was badly shaken up.
The experience had left him with
a fair amount of stress. He felt
like he needed a tranquilizer to
calm him down. He called his
doctor and began explaining the
situation.
No explanation was necessary.
His doctor was my father.
