Clinton Falls Village- Past and Present
A village within the Village of Clinton “on
the river” is one of the best kept secrets in NJ,
enjoyed by visitors from all over the world,
within view of beautiful falls, overlooking a
top fly fishing run, adjoining wildlife sanctuary
with lots of waterfowl of unusual variety, on
the north/south flyway and one of the most
photographed subjects in NJ.
During the warm weather, the patios over-
looking the nature area and fly fishing river
run are spectacular for patrons of the coffee
shop and diners of the restaurant. The interi-
or shops interconnect thru the Art Alley. Enjoy
these indoor shops throughout the year. Fire-
places in both the coffee shop and restaurant
make exploring the shops a warm experience
from start to finish.
Inside environs contain many nooks and
crannies occupied by an assortment of shops
(
frame and art, bicycle shop, antiques, Belgian
chocolate), services (yoga, massage, tech,
photography, accounting and counseling) as
well as a restaurant and coffee shop.
Clinton Falls Village
is 150 years young
with a 350 year old Sycamore umbrella tree
(
one of the three largest in New Jersey), which
has a Native American folklore history.
Main Street’s oldest building, on the river,
is located where the Spruce Run and the
South Branch of the Raritan River meet. It is
here that along an early Native American trail
two water-powered mills were built in 1750
and 1780. Overlooking the falls, these mills
stand as sentinels of the past. The Red Mill,
which ground flour for the Revolutionary
army, is currently an historic museum and the
Stone Mill is an art museum.
