He earned his BFA from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art in Newark and a degree in Technical Vocational Occupations from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He also worked with famed artist Joseph Albers (Homage to the Square) and studied with others such as Han Weingaertner, Samuel Brecher and Hannes Beckmann of Bauhaus fame. Rush is a certified New Jersey teacher having instructed at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, Montclair State University, Joe Kubert School of Car- tooning and Graphic Design and William Paterson University. Rush was also the Head of the Graphic Design Department and Co- Chair of the Fine Art Department at Sussex County Community College. Of interest, Rush’s artwork appeared in the movies, “Night of the Living Dead,” “The Godfather” and the “Purple Rose of Cairo.” Further, he created the color plates for the “Student Handbook of Color” by Charles N. Smith. Rush’s work was recognized by author Tova Navarra and included in her book, “New Jersey Artists Through Time,” by Fonthill Media. Rush has also been invit- ed to be part of Tova’s newest book, “New Jersey Masters: A New Legacy of Visual Arts,” the publication date to be announced. Painting for over 60 years, his work has taken him to Maine, Paris and parts of Europe. Exhibitions have been at the Olympic Museum in California, the Newark Museum, Larry Aldridge and Tredwell Muse- ums, New Jersey State Museum, Palmer Museum and Philadelphia Museum. In addi- tion, he was a guest artist at the Bauhaus Museum and Archives in Berlin, Germany. Rush has also exhibited in dozens of libraries, venues and galleries including, the Morris County Library, Madison Gallery, Frel- inghuysen Arboretum, Morris Arts Gallery, Park Avenue Club, Atrium Gallery, the Gold- endoor Gallery of New Hope, Pa, Newton Gallery, Swain Gallery and the Gaelen Gal- ley. Rush will also being showing his work at the Johnson & Johnson’s New Jersey Gallery in New Brunswick mid-August through Mid-September.
