SYLVAN WINDS TO PERFORM AT RVCC
The Sylvan Winds will perform at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in Branchburg on Tuesday, March 5, at 8 p.m. The evening, part of the Scarmolin Chamber Concerts, will be held in the Welpe Theatre. The program will feature music by the late New Jersey composer Anthony Louis Scarmolin (1890-1969).
Hailed by The New York Times for its “venturesome programming and stylishness of performance,” Sylvan Winds features flutist Svjetlana Kabalin, oboist Kathy Halvorson, clarinetist Amy Zoloto, bassoonist Erik Holtje and horn play Zohar Schondorf. The group has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival and the Caramoor International Music Festival. Chosen to perform at the NY Governor’s Arts Awards, the ensemble has presented imaginative chamber works programs for winds at such venues as Town Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, the Cape Cod and Skaneateles Festivals, the Chicago Chamber Music Society and the Sejong Cultural Center in Seoul, Korea. The musicians have recorded for the Koch Classics and CRI/New World labels and have enjoyed collaborations with such distinguished artists as Gerard Schwarz, Ransom Wilson, the Guarneri String Quartet and pianist Claude Frank.
The concert is sponsored by the A. Louis Scarmolin Trust. RVCC faculty member Dr. John Sichel is a trustee of the trust, which is dedicated to the preservation and promulgation of the music of Anthony Scarmolin.
Tickets cost $15 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available in advance by calling the box office, 908-725-3420, as well as at the door on the night of the concert.
