Juried Exhibition on view at The Center for Contemporary Art
Bedminster, NJ November 21, 2012: The Center for Contemporary Art’s Juried Exhibition opened on Friday, November 2nd and will remain on view through December 15, 2012. Forty-five pieces were selected from over six hundred entries submitted by artists from across the U.S., and Italy, Denmark, Austria and Latvia.
In his Juror Statement, Edwin Ramoran, observed, “The power of juried exhibitions remains clear and deliberate: to provide the opportunity for working contemporary artists to show. As a curator, I know artists will always push their best work forward. As a juror, I had the rare opportunity to award strong work.
This group of selected works exemplify the innovation, creativity, craftsmanship, strength, hard work, and commitment in art-making now from mixed media to painting and drawing and from photography to sculpture. This diverse community extends its reach to local New Jersey and New York artists and beyond.”
Edwin Ramoran is Curator-at-Large for the Bronx Council on the Arts and Guest Lead Curator for the performance and public art festival titled Art in Odd Places 2012: MODEL which took place in October along 14th Street. He is a recipient of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Curatorial Fellowship Grant and the apexart Outbound Residency. Previous positions include Assistant Curator at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Director/Curator at Longwood Arts Project/Bronx Council on the Arts, Director of Exhibitions and Programs at Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art, and Program Director of Arkipelago, a Filipino arts collective.
Three artists were selected by Ramoran for awards:
1st Prize; Kasey Ramirez (Jackson, NJ)
2nd Prize: Ibrahim Ahmed (Newark, NJ)
3rd Prize: Erin Paulson (Philadelphia, PA)
